Using the Euros to share Jesus this summer

The rearranged Euro 2020 tournament is fast approaching, presenting a great opportunity for churches to get amongst their communities this summer. After a year of social restrictions, this is needed more than ever! We love to see churches sharing Jesus through football, so whether young or old here are some ways for you to get involved!

Watch
Hold a screening of matches and invite people along to watch, maybe involving a BBQ or other refreshments.

You are free to show games on big screens if your church has a TV licence and you don’t charge for entry.

Games to look out for:
13th June, 2pm; England v Croatia, BBC
18th June, 8pm; England v Scotland, ITV
22nd June, 8pm; England v Czech Rep, ITV
11th July, 8pm; The Final, BBC & ITV

Play
A great place to start is getting a group together and just go and play. It can be a church hall, park, MUGA, or leisure centre. It’s an easy invite and a great way to build fellowship to share Jesus. If you need help, we are happy to come and do a training event, either in person or over Zoom. Are you connected with a lot of families? Why not do a Dads n Lads or parent and child session? Lots of over 50s? Try walking football!

Coach
Parents will be keen to get their kids active and socialising this summer. Your church can be just what they’re looking for with two-hour footballing session, complete with games and relevant talk. We have produced a step-by-step plan with all the information, games and equipment you need to run. Get in touch with Rob [email protected] for more information.

Special Services
Father’s Day is Sunday 20th June this year – have you considered a special service aimed at football fan Dads, who might not otherwise come to church? The tournament final on Sunday 11th July is another great opportunity to combine an outreach service with a match screening.

Quiz
Christians in Sport run a multimedia quiz that churches use to have a great night of quizzing and sharing faith. They also have a useful Sports Mission Pack available for download.

Resources
We write weekly talks during the season called Talk Football based on football & faith.. During the Euros we will be sending them for churches and individuals to use. Sign up for these here and tick the box ‘Talk Football’.
